The Fernández-Vega Foundation, presided over by the University Lecturer, Luis Fernández-Vega, and led by Mrs. Victoria Cueto-Felgueroso, undertakes the traditional social and patronage work in which the family has always been involved. Its objective is to facilitate access to services and ophthalmological treatments for disadvantaged individuals and groups.
The Foundation therefore focuses on the most human aspect of medical care, extending its work beyond the borders of Spain. An example of this freely acquired commitment was the activity of a group of specialists in the Piura region of Peru. They performed numerous eye examinations over nine days under the supervision of the Jesuit Enrique Figaredo. They previously carried out similar work on two occasions in Cambodia, as well as in different African countries.
The work developed by the Foundation is made possible thanks to the work of the professionals and resources made available by the Fernández-Vega Ophthalmology Institute, together with other bodies and anonymous contributors.
