THE FUNDACIÓN FERNÁNDEZ-VEGA AND THE FOUNDATION OF THE ORDER OF MALTA SIGN A PARTNERSHIP AGREEMENT
The Fundación Fernández-Vega and the Fundación Hospitalaria de la Orden de Malta in Spain (FHOME in Spanish) have signed a framework agreement whereby they will share relevant experiences for the purpose of their respective foundations. Specifically, they will able to enter into national and international partnership agreements in healthcare programmes or in eye surgery procedures.
As a first project for this framework agreement, a team of ophthalmologists and optometrist from the Instituto Oftalmológico Fernández-Vega will go to the facilities of the Centro Sanatorio Marítimo in Gijón to perform eye check-ups to its residents. If any eye condition requiring surgery is diagnosed during this visit, the Fundación Fernández-Vega will, after assessing each case, perform such surgery free of charge.
The Fundación Hospitalaria de la Orden de Malta in Spain promotes social activities in the framework of the charitable and welfare activities of the Malta Order in Spain. For the development and execution of these activities, the FHOME relies on the continuous collaboration of a team of volunteers (in their charity and welfare activities).
The Fundación Fernández-Vega, via the Instituto Oftalmológico Fernández-Vega, bring together the social and patronage work of the Fernández-Vega family, aiming to humanise healthcare even across the Spanish borders; its objective is to facilitate access to services and ophthalmological provisions to disadvantaged collectives, as well as promoting prevention, training and awareness on eye conditions.
